The company began producing tyres in 2003, working with Apollo Tyres and Kumho Tyres. It initially specialised in truck tyres and distributed brands such as Jinyu Tires and Blacklion. Production of passenger car tyres began in 2009.
In 2012, Sailun Company Ltd (known for its Sailun tyres) acquired 49 % of Jinyu. The two companies then merged to form the Sailun Jinyu Group. In 2018, the Jinyu name was dropped and the company was renamed Sailun Group Co., Ltd.
The Sailun Group is one of the 20 largest tyre manufacturers worldwide and employs around 14,000 people. Its factories in China (Qingdao, Dongying, Shenyang) and Vietnam produce more than 100 million tyres per year.
