Firestone tyre and Rubber Company – the American tyre manufacturing company founded in 1900 by Harvey S. Firestone in Akron. Since 1988 Firestone is the part of the Japanese company Bridgestone. Bridgestone Corporation purchased Firestone for 2.6 billion dollars. This transaction transformed both companies into the world’s largest tyre and rubber manufacturer. Firestone became the largest subsidiary of Bridgestone. Factories in both Americas were renamed to Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. Nowadays the subsidiary is known as Bridgestone Americas (BSAM). In consequence of this integration, Bridgestone/Firestone moved its headquarters from Akron to Nashville in 1992. Nowadays the company employs more than 50,000 employees in both of Americas and has 52 production facilities. Firestone consists of many companies from all over the world. Firestone tyre and Rubber Company is the manufacturer of tyres for cars, vans, trucks and agricultural machines. The company distinguished herself in history as a pioneer in the mass production of tyres. Company founder Harvey Firestone was a friend of Henry Ford and as a result of this friendship the Firestone tyre has become a supplier of original equipment for Ford Motor Company.
